At Sunnyvale Community Services we work in close partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank and other generous donors to provide our clients with necessary and nutritious food through a variety of food distribution programs. In order to qualify for our many food programs, we ask that prospective clients meet first with a case worker who will take in basic information about each person's specific needs and will then give the client a special card that entitles them access to our many helpful food programs.
On select Mondays clients can stop by and pick up 20 - 40 pounds of fresh produce. Produce is donated fresh to our facility every Monday morning and distributed to clients throughout the day from 9 AM - 5 PM. Shopping bags are pre-assembled by a staff of hard-working volunteers, each with a healthy variety of fresh produce that typically lasts a week.
Food Pantry Program
Monthly Food Program
Each month clients are able to come for additional bags of nutritious food to help stretch their budgets a little further. The Monthly Food program for seniors is typically the second Tuesday of each month, and for families it is held on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
Kids’ Summer Food Aid
Many of our youngest clients rely on school meals throughout the year. That means that during the summer months they need another source for nutritious food. We have special additional food available during the summer months so that our children stay nourished and well fed while away from school.
In addition to the above special programs, we also take in food donations from individuals throughout the year. We ask for non-perishable food in easy-to-open containers. Dry cereal, canned food with pull-top lids, and shelf stable milk are always needed. We prefer donations of food that do not require cooking since many of our clients do not have access to a kitchen.
If you would like more information about how to donate food, or would like to start a food drive where you work, please contact the SCS Volunteer Manager at at 408.738.4321 x211 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
