With the help of over 1,100 volunteers each year, Sunnyvale Community Services is able to provide emergency food and financial assistance to low-income, hard-working families who are struggling with the high cost of living in Silicon Valley.
There are opportunities for volunteers of all ages and interests, including food distribution, deliveries to home-bound seniors, food sorting, and more. We rely on assistance from individuals, student volunteers, faith-based groups, corporate volunteers, family night programs, community leader programs and many others to do the important work of helping our neighbors in need.
Volunteers often start by supporting our Wednesday drive-through food distributions. Over time, other volunteer experiences may become available that match specific skills in other programs like assisting in our warehouse or crafting with our Auxiliary group.
If you are interested in volunteering you can sign up with the form below. You will be contacted as soon as an opportunity becomes available.

Corporate teams play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission, from packing and distributing groceries to supporting client programs, organizing events, and assisting with community initiatives. Volunteering at SCS is a powerful way for your team to give back, strengthen collaboration, and see the direct impact of your efforts on local families in need. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in preventing hunger and homelessness while creating a rewarding, hands-on experience that builds team spirit and demonstrates your company’s commitment to the community.
Our student volunteers are Mondays through Friday 9am-4pm. We do not currently have weekend volunteer opportunities. Students must be a high school student of 14 years of age or older to volunteer (regardless of a parent or guardian being present).
The tasks include double bagging brown bags (onsite only), warehouse maintenance, packing and sorting groceries and produce.
If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign your Student Volunteer Application.
All volunteer shifts are based on need and the ability to complete the entire shift. Shifts are subject to change and cancellation. You must receive a confirmation email prior to coming onsite.
Please email volunteer@svcommunityservices.org for current openings.
We host a monthly Family night to introduce children to the concepts of volunteering, empathy, and compassion. We welcome children from 4 years of age up to 12 years of age and their parent(s) or guardian(s).
Our Family Night takes place on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 6:00pm-8:00pm
This family-friendly event will promote reading, tolerance, and inclusion. The activities will inform discussions around hunger, homelessness and our collective impact. SCS staff will facilitate family volunteering activities and provide an overview of SCS programs and services followed by Q&A.
