IRS Distributions
Tax-advantaged giving from your retirement account
When you ask your retirement plan administrator to make a donation to Sunnyvale Community Services directly from your IRA, it becomes a qualified charitable distribution (QCD)*. Unlike normal IRA distributions, QCDs are not considered taxable income. That not only affects your tax liability for the year, it may also change your bracket for Medicare premiums and taxes on Social Security benefits. In short, a QCD helps both you and SCS’s clients!
* You must be at least 70½ to make a QCD.
RMDs
If you’re 72 or over, federal law requires you to take a required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA every year, or face IRS penalties. You can fulfill some or all of your RMD by making a qualified charitable distribution directly to Sunnyvale Community Services.
Questions?
Get more information about QCDs on the IRS website.
Contact your IRA administrator for further information on making QCDs, including deadlines and limitations.
If you’d like more information about how a QCD can benefit Sunnyvale Community Services, please contact our Development Team at 408.470.3023. We look forward to speaking with you.
