Everyone matters.
This is the belief that drives us, and the reason we have been serving low-income families in our community for 50 years. Even before the COVID-19 crisis, the need was soaring. The number of clients we serve had grown 50% in five years. Then, in the first month of the pandemic stay-at-home order, community requests for financial assistance grew 600%, and the need continues to grow. We are stretched beyond capacity and are out of space to meet the increasing need!
Our goal is to raise $20 million for our new home, a larger facility carefully renovated with our clients in mind, to enable us to increase our capacity to serve. The wonderful news is, we are more than 80% to our goal!
Please join us in the final stretch of The Campaign for Our New Home. Together, we can build a community free from homelessness and hunger.
We are 83.5% toward our goal!
Our New Home
Our new home is at 1160 Kern Avenue, Sunnyvale.
With three times more space, the new building will allow us to improve the management and delivery of current services, and open opportunities for more comprehensive client offerings.
The new building will give us:
- Spacious volunteer work areas
- Ample, safe parking
- Twice as much warehouse space
- More than double the room for private client consultations
- Training and meeting rooms for staff and community
- More room for partner agencies to offer services onsite
The People We Help
Our clients are our neighbors. In FY 2020-21, we served 10,492 individuals. Nearly half represented the most vulnerable — children and seniors.
“Sunnyvale Community Services is a great family that helps a lot of families. Feeling that there is always someone who can help...It’s a true community to me.”
—Manuela, SCS client
“Honestly, thank you for your help. I’m back at work, and I was able to pay this month’s rent on my own!”
—"Elijah," SCS client
“The schools had closed. We were left without work. It was stressful… When I heard that SCS could help us financially, I knew the doors had not been closed to continuing a normal life.”
—Monica, SCS client
“It’s so easy to work hard in the Bay Area and still slip under. I was desperate, but I’m so thankful that somebody helped me, that my boys never knew how close we were.”
—Gerardo, SCS client
